Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is returning to theatres around the UK to celebrate 10 years since it opened in Sheffield.
The musical’s tour of the UK, beginning in 2027, could be its last stint in the UK, representatives have said.
It will open at Leeds Grand Theatre on 15th January 2027, before visiting cities including Chester, Sunderland, Sheffield, Manchester, Wimbledon, Liverpool, Glasgow, Birmingham, Aylesbury, Oxford, and Woking. Casting and further touring dates are still to be announced.
Everybody’s Talking About Jamie follows a Sheffield teenager who dreams of becoming a drag queen, inspired by a 2011 documentary about a 16-year-old boy chasing a similar dream in County Durham.
The musical premiered at the Sheffield Crucible in 2017, before transferring to the West End later that year. It then enjoyed national tours and played around the world including in the US, Korea, Japan and Italy.
Producer Nica Burns, who returns to produce the tour, recalled: “10 years ago I got on a train to Sheffield to see the final matinee of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie and 10 years later this heart-lifting true story with wonderful songs has played every inhabited continent."
Director Jonathan Butterell, composer Dan Gillespie Sells and writer and lyricist Tom MacRae added: "It will be 10 years in February next year since Jamie New first stepped out into the world. 10 years since the people of Sheffield laughed and cried and celebrated his story at the Crucible. 10 years since Nica Burns and Nimax Theatres brought Jamie to London and sent him off dancing on his own two sparkling feet.
"Jamie’s courage in unveiling himself in all his glorious, fabulous joy has been applauded by millions of people in dozens of countries, and next year, to celebrate the show’s 10th birthday, he will be returning home to stages all around the UK."
