Things are kicking off in Liverpool – in fact, you could say they’ve reached rock bottom. Tabard hears things got a bit heated after a large poster was hung outside the Liverpool Empire advertising The Full Monty, starring Gary Lucy.
The poster in question featured the actor’s bare bum, which one local resident was not too happy about. According to Lucas Pierre Porquet, the poster was “just wrong” and could end up tainting the minds of children.
“My primary concern is that innocent young girls and boys on their way to school will be exposed to this picture,” he said, adding: “We only want to fill young minds with what is good and educational, not perverted and just wrong.”
He went on to call the poster “outrageous”. Wow. Porquet has a lot of time on his hands, doesn’t he? And as a politics student, you wonder whether he might be better off talking about, well, politics – given the times we’re in right now. But, no.
So how did producers respond to the criticism? Tabard hears David Pugh wasted no time defending the picture. “Gary Lucy’s bum has made many, many, many people happy for many, many, many hours over the last three years that The Full Monty has toured the country and we are very proud of it.”
It’s probably made him a lot of money too. But whatever you think of Lucy’s derriere, let’s hope this whole sorry affair can be put to one side and we can all move on. Tabard would drink to that. Bottoms up! Sorry…
