Jesus Christ Superstar at the London Palladium has released onstage standing tickets, promising audiences “an electrifying, up-close experience”.
Producer Michael Harrison said the tickets to the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, which cost £25 each, will allow audiences to “stand at the heart of the action, immersed in the raw energy, power and spectacle of this legendary rock musical”.
The initiative marks the first time on-stage tickets have been sold at the London Palladium.
Director Timothy Sheader said: “This isn’t just watching a story unfold. It’s being inside it. You’ll feel the heat of the lights, the pulse of the orchestra and the energy of the performers.”
He added: “Ten years on from our original production, we wanted to find a way to bring people even closer to the pulsing heart of this piece, and there’s no more powerful place to experience it than from within the action itself.”
Sheader, who is currently artistic director of the Donmar Warehouse, first staged Jesus Christ Superstar at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre in 2016, with the show winning the Olivier award for best musical revival, transferring to the Barbican, then touring nationally and internationally.
The tenth anniversary remount at the Palladium opens on 20th June and stars Sam Ryder as Jesus and original cast member Tyrone Huntley as Judas, with performers including Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Simon Russell Beale, Layton Williams, and Julian Clary sharing the role of Herod.
