Jamie Lloyd’s Much Ado About Nothing starring Tom Hiddleston and Hayley Atwell is to transfer to Broadway for a 10-week run.
The play, which formed part of Lloyd’s season of Shakespearean work at Theatre Royal Drury Lane in 2024/25, will run in one of New York’s Shubert theatres this autumn. The venue and precise dates are still to be confirmed.
The transfer comes around a year after Much Ado About Nothing first premiered in London, with Hiddleston as Benedick and Atwell as Beatrice.
It will reunite Hiddleston and Lloyd on Broadway seven years after they worked together on a production of Harold Pinter’s Betrayal, which also travelled to New York after premiering in London.
Hiddleston called working on Much Ado About Nothing "one of the most fulfilling experiences of my performing life".
"I could not be more thrilled to bring this jubilant and joyous production to Broadway," he added.
Jamie Lloyd has anchored Shakespeare’s profoundly romantic poetry and comedy at the heart of this production, and decorated the play with music, dancing, love, and laughter."
For Atwell meanwhile, Much Ado About Nothing will mark her Broadway debut.
"We’re thrilled new audiences will experience this story through Jamie’s innovative direction," she said. "This is a modern celebration of universal themes.”
Lloyd said of Hiddleston and Atwell: "The chemistry between the two of them was palpable from the first rehearsal and I could sense it was a magical pairing for the ages.
"It’s an honour to bring their joyous performances in Shakespeare’s beloved comedy to Broadway this fall.”
Much Ado About Nothing will be produced on Broadway by The Jamie Lloyd Company, with 101 Productions Ltd serving as general managers.
