London’s Royal Court Theatre has announced two new schemes for writers, including a year-long placement at the venue.
The Lynne Gagliano Writers Award has been named after the former head of the Royal Court’s Young Court, who died suddenly in summer 2016.
It will support a young writer aged 18 to 25 to undertake a writing assignment and create a new piece of work with the Royal Court over the course of a year.
Applications for the scheme will open in June, with the Royal Court aiming to find a writer who has not previously engaged with the theatre.
The theatre has also announced the Royal Court/Oberon Books Climate Commission, which will be an environmental initiative in playwriting. Further details of this scheme are to be revealed.
Both initiatives were announced alongside the Royal Court’s latest season.
