Alexandra Burke, winner of the fifth series of The X Factor, is to take over from Beverley Knight in The Bodyguard.
Burke joins the show as Rachel Marron on June 2, and will appear opposite Tristan Gemmill, who continues in his role as Frank Farmer.
Burke said she was a fan of Whitney Houston, adding that to play the role Houston made famous in the film the musical is based on would be a “real privilege”.
The Bodyguard is directed by Thea Sharrock and has a book by Alex Dinelaris.
It opened in November 2012 at the Adelphi Theatre and is currently booking until August 30 this year.
As previously announced, a musical version of Made in Dagenham will open at the theatre later this year. It has not yet been confirmed whether The Bodyguard will move to a new venue after this.
Meanwhile, Knight is to play the lead in musical Memphis, which opens at the Shaftesbury Theatre in October.
