Chichester Festival Theatre has appointed Kathy Bourne as its new executive director.
She will run the organisation alongside artistic director Daniel Evans, succeeding Rachel Tackley, who left the role last year after citing a clash of leadership styles.
Bourne was Chichester’s associate and festival producer between 2006 and 2015, during Jonathan Church’s tenure as artistic director. She left to become executive producer at Church’s production company, but will rejoin CFT in May.
Bourne said: “I am thrilled to be rejoining Chichester Festival Theatre as executive director. It is an honour to be given the opportunity to work alongside Daniel and the incredibly talented Chichester team to continue to build on the success of this exemplary theatre. I wholeheartedly share their exciting vision for the future, which I look forward to developing and delivering alongside them in the years to come.”
Evans added that he was “excited to start a new chapter” for the theatre working alongside Bourne.
“I couldn’t be happier that Kathy is returning to the Festival Theatre in this role. Over her previous time working at CFT, she earned the respect and affection of our artists and staff, as well as many of our partners in our city and region; and she has myriad admirers in the wider theatre industry,” he added.
Bourne’s appointment comes as it is announced that Tackley has rejoined Ambassador Theatre Group, where she headed up the company’s programming team between 2002 and 2006, to work for ATG’s production arm.
