Accents in Action: The Coach's Bootcamp

FacebookTwitterLinkedIn

Are you a vocal coach looking to develop your skills in teaching accents?

This two-week course will develop your ability to model and teach accents in a variety of professional settings.

In this course you will:

  • Improve the consistency and specificity of your accent modelling.
Anyone can ‘do an accent.’ How do you model an accent in a way that helps someone learn
  • Refine your ability to give clear, effective notes. It’s one thing to identify an issue, and quite another to facilitate a solution. How do you adapt your notes in a variety of contexts, for different types of learners – all while building confidence and supporting an actor’s performance, never distracting from it?
  • Learn how to prepare useful, appropriate accent samples, break-downs, practice materials and warm-ups. All the gorgeously formatted materials in the world become useless paper if an actor isn’t empowered by them.

Led by a team of dialect coaches currently working globally in film, television and theatre, the skills you learn on this course will be intensely practical and immediately applicable. This course is built from knowledge derived over years of combined professional experience at the forefront of the industry. The aim of the course is to elevate the industry standard of accent coaching, in pursuit of excellence.

Participants will focus on a selection of accents most useful and relevant for the group. You will explore how to source, prepare, and present accent samples and how to break down accents in a way that will help different types of actors. You will model accents and lead coaching sessions both in groups and one-to-one. You will receive constructive, empowering feedback on your coaching.

Course Content
Each day will include time dedicated to coaching, with the opportunity to both give and receive feedback while trying out a variety of coaching methods. There will also be a focus on accent modelling and preparation.

Core skills explored throughout the course will include creating excellent accent samples and recordings, designing an actor/accent-specific warm up, writing effective practice sentences, breaking down a script and approaching an accent that an actor has never heard before.

Special activities scheduled throughout the course include a trip to the theatre, a day working with visiting actors and masterclasses from top dialect coaches from The Dialect Agency.
