You’d have to have been living under a rock not to have heard about nine-year-old Charlie Kristensen, who found himself being bullied by his peers because of his love of musical theatre.
The West End community did not take kindly to this kind of behaviour, with musical stars from across major shows taking time out of their schedules to record heartfelt messages of support for the little lad, letting him know that he has nothing to be ashamed of so far as his passion for show tunes is concerned.
Who among us didn’t stand in their bedroom as a kid, reciting the colours of Joseph’s dreamcoat at the top of their lungs, or twirling around Maria von Trapp-style, pretending to be climbing the hills of Switzerland?
Tabard was moved by all the outpouring and doffs his cap to the good people of Theatreland who refused to stand by and watch a fab and, who knows, future star of the West End being ridiculed for his love of musical theatre.
Because it turns out the plucky nine-year-old has found himself being represented by a children’s talent agency, Ardent Talent.
This means that all those people who laughed at him may soon be laughing on the other side of their faces. And they may well be the ones asking for his signature at stage door in years to come. Way to go, Charlie!
