Suzi Quatro’s theatre debut – 40 years ago in The Stage

This week 40 years ago (November 21, 1985), The Stage announced Suzi Quatro’s first-ever theatrical performance in Chichester Festival Theatre’s Annie Get Your Gun. 

“Rock star Suzi Quatro is to make her theatre debut in a major new production planned for a national tour and an eventual West End opening,” Angela Thomas wrote. 

“The American singer will play the title role in the Chichester Festival Theatre’s production of Annie Get Your Gun early next year. 

“Quatro is known to be keen on pursuing an acting carer and recently made a guest appearance as another gun-toting female in TV’s Dempsey and Makepeace.

“The show will be directed by David Gilmore, whose West End credits include Daisy Pulls It Off and The Hired Man.

“‘It took us a long time to find the right girl – I even went to America to audition – but when I saw Suzi, I knew she was right for the part,’ he said. 

“‘She really is very good and I think she is going to be a big success.’

“The show will open the Chichester Festival Theatre’s season before starting a national tour leading to a London opening. Quatro is so involved in the project that she has postponed a planned Australian tour to concentrate on the show.”
