London performing arts school Urdang Academy is partnering with the University of Birmingham to deliver a new dance and musical theatre degree.
Students taking the new BA (hons) in professional dance and musical theatre will train at Urdang, in central London, but will receive their degree from the University of Birmingham.
It will be the first musical theatre degree offered by the university.
The course will take over from an existing BA programme taught by Urdang. As part of the collaboration, new and unique content will be added to the three-year course when teaching begins in September.
Urdang’s previous musical theatre and dance degree was accredited by Anglia Ruskin University.
Solange Urdang, the school’s chief executive, said: “We are delighted to be working with Birmingham, a leading Russell Group university, to deliver their first professional musical theatre degree, and we look forward to welcoming the autumn 2020 cohort.”
Birmingham University’s head of drama and theatre arts, David Pattie, added: “Urdang has an exceptional track record for delivering highly capable and well-rounded performers and is one of the most respected and well established institutions in the industry. We are looking forward to adding this degree to the courses offered by the department of drama and theatre arts.”
The new programme will be offered alongside the school’s other courses, which include a three-year diploma and a one-year foundation programme.
