Original cast members from the BBC’s broadcast of Mike Leigh’s Abigail’s Party, including Alison Steadman, will return for a 60th birthday gala at Hampstead Theatre later this month.
The gala will raise funds for its under 30s ticket scheme.
The event, which is part of a year-long celebration culminating in the 2020 summer season, will be hosted by journalist Zeinab Badawi and actor Lloyd Owen.
An auction, presented by Christopher Biggins, will follow live music from the venue’s recent production of Caroline, or Change.
Steadman and Wendy Nottingham, who performed in the West End production, will join Janine Duvitski, who also starred in the BBC adaptation of Abigail’s Party, to read scenes from the Mike Leigh play, which premiered at the theatre in 1977.
Artistic director Roxana Silbert said: “This is a delightful opportunity to celebrate Hampstead Theatre’s progress and achievements over the last six decades.
“The event also gives us a great opportunity to raise funds for the next generation of artists and audiences, and ensure the future of this wonderful theatre.”
All proceeds from the event will go towards the under 30s £10 ticket scheme and to support the venue’s work with young people.
The gala will take place on January 23, with further events marking the venue’s 60th anniversary to be announced.
