Leeds Playhouse has established a repertory company of Northern actors who will perform in a season of pop-up productions at the theatre.
The Leeds Playhouse Ensemble has been put together to perform in a selection of productions taking place over a year, as the theatre undergoes a major refurbishment project.
The shows will be performed in a temporary theatre at Leeds Playhouse – formerly West Yorkshire Playhouse – while the building is redeveloped as part of a £15 million capital project.
The ensemble members are Lladel Bryant, Jo Mousley, Tessa Parr, Robert Pickavance, Susan Twist, Joe Alessi, Darren Kuppan, Dan Parr, Elexi Walker and Simona Bitmate.
The company will feature in each of the pop-up productions, which include a gender-swapped Hamlet starring Tessa Parr in the title role, A Christmas Carol, starring Pickavance, Road, Around the World in 80 Days, Kes and Europe.
Casting for other productions is yet to be announced.
Leeds Playhouse artistic director James Brining said: “We believe it’s important that a large regional producing theatre such as the playhouse cultivates develops and provides meaningful opportunities for local actors and supports the local creative ecology, and it will be a real pleasure to watch the company grow as individuals and as a team over the next year.”
