The London production of Waitress has confirmed it will not be returning to the West End once theatres reopen.
The show was due to end its run at the Adelphi Theatre on July 4, but producers said in a statement that they do not believe the show will be able to begin performances again before then.
Producers said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the closing of our beloved London production of Waitress the Musical. As you’ll be aware, we’ve had to temporarily lower the curtain at the Adelphi Theatre and it’s now unlikely that the diner will reopen once this period of uncertainty is over.
“If things do change and there is a world in which we believe we could continue a run at the Adelphi before 4 July, we will be in touch with you. Ticket holders will be contacted in due course by their point of purchase.”
The musical, which has music and lyrics by Sara Bareilles, opened in the West End in March 2019. Bareilles had been starring in the show with Gavin Creel at the time of its closure on March 16.
