Theatre company Part of the Main, which was set up to provide opportunities and support for women, trans and non-binary artists in the UK, is behind the virtual workshops.
The workshops, which are open to anyone, fall under the company’s Part of the Grid initiative, originally launched in 2018 to provide theatre tech, design and producing training.
They will include a four-week series on movement direction called Text in Motion: Movement and New Writing by movement director Christina Fulcher, who was the assistant choreographer for Lloyd Malcolm’s Emilia. The course will also feature Q&As with Lloyd Malcolm and Ibini.
Further workshops include sessions on dramaturgy and facilitating work online from director Jo Tyabji.
Some of the workshops are free, while others cost £8, which will go towards paying the artists involved.
In addition to its Part of the Grid workshops, Part of the Main is hosting an online spreadsheet listing paid and free writing, acting and streaming opportunities available for artists.
The company is also collating and maintaining a freelance artist database, featuring theatre artists and the skills they can offer during and after the Covid-19 lockdown.
Artistic director of Part of the Main, Olivia Munk, said: “Since 2018, Part of the Grid workshops have provided over 150 artists with new skills in theatre tech, design and producing.
"I am excited to bring these workshops online in order to reach new artists and support them to continue expanding their relationship with the theatre industry even when traditional productions are on pause.
"This online format presents new possibilities for connection across the UK and beyond, and I hope to continue fostering this outreach online and in person once the Covid-19 crisis subsides."
