April de Angelis and Barney Norris are among six writers commissioned to write new plays for the Bush Theatre’s off-site production This Place We Know.
The west London theatre has also announced the playwrights selected for the second year of its emerging writers’ group as well other opportunities for writers to submit work for consideration.
De Angelis and Norris will be joined by Sabrina Mahfouz, Gbolohan Obisesan, Kenny Emson and Nancy Harris in penning plays for This Place We Know, which will be performed in various venues around the Uxbridge Road in Shepherd’s Bush.
The production is part of the Bush’s off-site season, which is taking place while its building undergoes a major refurbishment project.
This Place We Know runs in September.
The second year of the Bush’s emerging writers’ group, which includes a new intake of six writers, begins next month, the theatre has announced. The selected playwrights are Tristan Bernays, Tristan Fynn-Aiduenu, Kamal Kaan, Jessica Sian, AC Smith and Camilla Whitehall.
They will be supported by the theatre over a sustained period of time, to encourage the creation of a new full-length play.
Elsewhere, the first unsolicited scripts window of 2016 will open from June 1 to September 30, during which time UK and Ireland-based writers are invited to submit full-length scripts to be considered for production.
Artistic director Madani Younis said: “From our unsolicited submissions through to the work produced on our stage, we are proud to champion, develop and produce the work of diverse writers.
“By inviting playwrights to our emerging writers’ group, drawn from unsolicited script submissions and the work we see around the UK, we are more committed than ever to creating bespoke and meaningful opportunities for the brightest and best new writing talent.”
