Canvas & Rum

by Jason Gerdes

Join the maelstrom of Sailors, Sirens, Superstitions and Shanties.

You are invited to take passage with them on their voyage, become part of the crew and follow the life of a sailor working on board an old whaling vessel headed to Rio.  One green hand needs showing the ropes as he unnerves the other sailors who are a superstitious bunch. One old sea dog who left Cornwall many years ago takes this new comer under his wing and educates him in life on the open seas. When disaster strikes, the green hands life is turned upside down and he has a promise to fulfil…  Returning from Rio on a packet ship is a stark contrast to life on a whaler where he meets a mysterious woman and an eccentric Biologist.  As members of the crew you will endure the infamous crossing the line ceremony, pull the oars as the hunt begins, tie knots into the rigging and remember, don’t bring any rabbits on board.  There will be drunken sailors dressed as woman, Neptune will pay a visit, Sirens will entice you, shanties will be sung and will we discover what is in that packet?

The 4 actors draw you into the show by immersing themselves within the audience. “we encourage every one to join in and be part of the crew, whether  young or old” says Steven Kelly Co Artistic Director.
Canvas & Rum will be mooring up at:

  • 13th– 16th August, London, St Katherine Dock, on the London Barge Lady-Daphne
  • 22nd – 26th August – Liverpool, Canning Dock on the Tall ship Zebu

Please note that access is limited on board these vessels, please contact for more details.
