Aladdin

“Full of warmth and wit”

Alan McHugh returns to His Majesty’s Theatre, Aberdeen for his 13th year as writer and dame of this most northerly of Qdos pantomimes.  McHugh is joined by Joraon Young playing Aladdin, for his ninth year in Aberdeen.

Their Doric dialect word play and use of local town names has become and a trade mark of which the audience never tire.  This comedic Doric duo with their warm and self-effacing humour, display a comic assurance in asides to the audience updating them how much longer they have to endure the gags.

Showman and singer Jimmy Osmond takes to the Granite City stage as the baddy Abanazar. Playing a loveable rogue he delights the audience with a melody of Osmond hits and a hilariously bumbling attempt at the Aberdonian dialect.

Lisa-Anne Wood turned Princess Jasmine into a feisty heroine with some strong vocal performances, who finally defeats Abanazar to save the day.

Billy Riddoch makes a return to the Aberdeen panto crew, after over a decade, as the bumbling Emperor Wang. Completing the reunion Elaine C Smith, who has appeared in the city’s production for the past eight years, is the voice of the genie.

Pyrotechnics, flying carpets, seamless choreography, genies, giant cobras and glittering costumes give this production an abundance of energy.  Combined with comedy, capable storytelling and superb vocals this makes for a first-rate family show.
