Diary: Princess Diana musical? Woah, woah, we’re halfway there
There have been some unlikely topics of inspirations for musicals over the years.
Some have turned out to be surprising hits and others… not so much.
Now creatives across the pond have decided to tell the story of Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s marriage as a musical.
While many have attempted to tackle the infamous tale before, this adaptation may just be the jewel in the crown.
According to the Telegraph, this retelling of the story includes a scene in which the Queen “suddenly bursts into song before Princess Diana and Camilla Parker Bowles take each other on in an imaginary boxing ring and Barbara Cartland makes an appearance in hot pink marabou feathers.”
Other highlights include Diana’s lover James Hewitt appearing on stage wearing nothing more than a tiny pair of swimming trunks, to a chorus of: “Here comes James Hewitt!”
Diana: A New Musical by Joe DiPietro and Bon Jovi’s David Bryan is currently running at La Jolla Playhouse in California.
Tabard isn’t quite sure how it would be received in the UK, but would love to see a transfer, nonetheless. Perhaps this would provide some much-needed comic relief in these politically turbulent times.
