Diary: Cats spat almost becomes a performance with bite

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Cats will close its doors on Broadway at the end of the month.

But the end nearly came that little bit sooner for one of the show’s poor cast members who – in a ‘you couldn’t make it up’ moment – found herself chased through the auditorium, while in costume, by a dog.

Now Tabard shouldn’t laugh, but it’s impossible not to when picturing the scene.

Poor Mackenzie Warren was dressed as Bombalurina and was performing in the opening number, Jellicle Cats, when the incident in question occurred.

According to news site Page Six, an assistance dog was to blame. The wayward animal apparently got away from his owner to chase the stricken performer.

But, luckily, ushers were on hand to block the dog’s path and return it to its embarrassed owner before it could get his jaws into the terrified cat/human. And thankfully the show was able to continue.

The incident was confirmed by a spokesman for the show, who said: “In the storied history of Cats, this is the first time one of the actual Cats was involved in an incident with a dog. We’re pleased to report that no animals or humans were harmed in the dust-up, and the performance continued without a hitch.”

Still, a lovely little Memory there for the cast.
