Director exits stage left to join the rude botanicals
Tabard often wonders what the great and good of theatre do with their lives once they’re through with the industry. Do they while away the hours watching daytime television – such as Mel and Sue’s new chat show or Loose Women – or do they find something more satisfying/challenging (if there is such a thing)?
Well then, one says hooray for Mig Kimpton, who was most recently executive director at the Arts Theatre in London, but who has revealed he is abandoning theatre for a new line of work: flowers.
Green-fingered Kimpton – who has managed tours for artists including Lesley Joseph and Sandi Toksvig – has announced that he will be concentrating on his passion for floral design. This isn’t a hobby that will occupy him in the comfort of his own garden, but something much more serious. He has set up his own business as an independent floral designer.
Kimpton explained: “It was time for a radical change. It’s been a fantastic rollercoaster ride in theatre and I have worked with some wonderful people, but it’s time to follow my passion and form my own business.”
Kimpton launched his new company at the weekend. He even has an endorsement from none other than Ian McKellen, who has said: “Mig is a wizard with flowers”. High praise indeed from an actual wizard.
If they’re good enough for McKellen, Kimpton’s arrangements are good enough for anyone. And apparently he’s only doing large-scale events. So West End opening night parties will be perfect business.
