Fleabag has clearly been a hit with thousands who have seen it on stage and huge swathes of the country who tuned in to the BBC series.
But not everyone is a fan, with one national newspaper voicing its disapproval loud and clear.
In a hard-hitting “exclusive” piece of investigative journalism, the Sun has revealed that Phoebe Waller-Bridge uttered a tremendous 33 swear words during her “shockingly filthy stage show”, which runs at Wyndham’s Theatre in London until September 14.
This apparently accounts for one swear word every minute and, what’s more (it harrumphs), there were 12 uses of the F word in a single one-minute monologue. According to the Sun’s entertainment reporter Benjy Potter, Waller-Bridge “turned the air blue with repeated mentions of masturbation, threatening to ‘pencil f****’ her pet guinea pig and talk of threesomes”.
One audience member told the Sun: “Fans expected the show to be a bit rude but the level of swearing was quite shocking.”
They added: “Luckily there weren’t any children in the audience but it could have been a completely different story if there were.”
Tabard isn’t sure why this comes as a shock, as Waller-Bridge isn’t exactly known for having a filter, or why these revelations have only just been revealed now, many years after the show premiered. Tabard certainly hasn’t been put off and will still be entering the weekly ticket lottery for a chance to see Waller-Bridge in all her sweary glory.
