Actor Hayley Tamaddon recently spoke out about her experience of an audience member shouting “fuck you” at her character during a performance of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie in the West End.

Hayley Tamaddon: WTF? It’s never acceptable for audiences to verbally abuse the performers

Tamaddon said she had been shaken by what she felt was an inappropriate and personal attack, during a serious scene in the show, and said she had later heard from fellow audience members that the woman in question had been disruptive throughout the performance.

Some people have since argued that audiences should not be discouraged from verbally engaging with characters and actors should be prepared for this, while others have claimed it is disrespectful towards performers on stage.

This week we’re asking: Did the audience member’s reaction to Hayley Tamaddon’s character go too far?
