Mary Caws has been appointed executive director of Tobacco Factory Theatres in Bristol.
She joins the theatre from an interim executive director role at the Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch, and has previously held executive roles at Theatre Royal Stratford East and Watford Palace Theatre.
Caws takes over the role on August 1, and replaces Lauren Scholey.
Caws joins as the venue prepares to open a new studio theatre, which is being constructed as part of a £1.5 million capital project that also includes a refurbishment of its backstage areas and an extended bar.
She said: “I am relishing the opportunity to build on the inspiring achievements of this organisation and look forward to working with the team on the opportunities across programming, audiences and community engagement that are unlocked by the opening of the new studio theatre.”
The 84-seat studio space – the Spielman Theatre – opens in October.
Caws will work alongside artistic director Mike Tweddle, who said: “She joins us as we embark on an ambitious new chapter in the organisation’s life – with two world-class theatre spaces at the centre of a re-imagined building that will open its doors to new audiences and offer powerful opportunities to local communities.”
