Musical theatre star Rachel John is to kickstart a new series of events at London’s Shaw Theatre, in which performers will sing songs that tell the stories of their own careers.
Singing at the Shaw will run bimonthly and will give musical stars the chance to curate a set list that “represents them and their journey”.
The theatre said its aim was to allow audiences the chance to “get to know more about” the people taking part.
John, who was in the original London cast of Hamilton, will be the first performer as part of the series, on April 28.
Wayne Glover-Stuart, who runs the theatre, said: “We launched Singing at the Shaw to open our doors to musical theatre performers who are looking for an opportunity to showcase their journey, telling a personal story through song. They choose the set list, no restrictions.”
Musical direction is by Stefan Brown.
Last year, the theatre announced it was to start producing its own work for the first time since the 1980s.
