Rebecca Pow has been appointed culture minister, following a reshuffle that saw Michael Ellis leave the job for a position in the transport department.
Pow is the Conservative MP for Taunton Deane and has been appointed minister for arts, heritage and tourism.
She replaces Ellis in the role, who had held the position since January 2018 and will now become transport minister.
Pow campaigned to remain in the European Union prior to the referendum, however her constituency voted to leave the EU and she subsequently supported Theresa May’s withdrawal agreement.
Her appointment came shortly before May announced her intention to step down as prime minister on June 7, after which a new leader will be appointed and will choose their own cabinet.
On Twitter, Pow said she was “honoured and absolutely delighted” to be appointed, praising the “glorious remit” of her role in the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.
In the department, she sits alongside culture secretary Jeremy Wright and minister for digital and creative industries Margot James.
