Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre has announced principal casting for its production of Evita.
Samantha Pauly and Ektor Rivera will make their UK debuts in Evita in the roles of Eva Peron and Juan Peron.
During the casting process, an initial breakdown for the role seen by The Stage said the production was looking for a black performer to play the lead role of Eva Peron.
However a spokesman for the show then added that they were “considering actors from a wide range of backgrounds for all roles in Evita.”
Other casting for Evita, which is directed by Jamie Lloyd, includes Trent Saunders and Frances Mayli McCann.
Lloyd said: “After an international search, I am incredibly excited about the amazing talent we have discovered, and the variety of voices we have assembled, to share this story today.
“Samantha Pauly will lead a thrillingly diverse and powerful company.”
The full creative team has also been announced, including set and costume designer Soutra Gilmour, choreographer Fabian Aloise, musical supervisor Alan Williams, lighting designer Jon Clark and sound designer Nick Lidster.
Evita will run from August 2 to September 21, with press night on August 8.
Principal casting for the return of Jesus Christ Superstar includes Robert Tripolino and Ricardo Afonso in the lead roles of Jesus and Judas.
The cast also includes Sallay Garnett, Cavin Cornwall and Nathan Amzi.
X Factor winner Matt Cardle will play the role of Pilate.
Jesus Christ Superstar will run at the Barbican Theatre from July 4 to August 24.
