Nkeki Obi-Melekwe and Ashley Zhangazha have been announced to join the cast of Tina – The Tina Turner Musical.
Obi-Melekwe will take on the title role from Adrienne Warren, who will lead the Broadway production opening in the autumn.
Zhangazha will join alongside Obi-Melekwe from April 15 as Ike Turner, replacing Kobna Holdbrook-Smith.
Turner said: “I know just how extensive the search was to find her, and I am delighted that Nkeki will be joining our Tina family.
“Her raw talent is clearly extraordinary and her determination and spirit are second to none. Audiences at the Aldwych will be amazed. I look forward to welcoming her to London.”
Others joining the second year company include Irene-Myrtle Forrester, Howard Gossington, Oscar Batterham and Maria Omakinwa.
Aisha Jawando, who is already in the cast, will play the role of Tina at some performances each week, while Francesca Jackson will continue to play Ike and Tina’s manager Rhonda Graam.
Tina is directed by Phyllida Lloyd and written by Katori Hall with Frank Ketelaar and Kees Prins. The production is currently booking at the Aldwych Theatre until December 21.
It is produced by Stage Entertainment, Joop van den Ende and Tali Pelman, in association with Tina Turner.
