Manchester’s Hope Mill Theatre will no longer present the UK premiere of Pasek and Paul musical A Christmas Story, with Sondheim revue Putting It Together running in its place.
The musical had been due to run from the end of October this year, but the venue said it would now be replaced by the Sondheim revue, which will be directed by Bronagh Lagan.
The show celebrates Sondheim’s career and features songs from musicals such as Sweeney Todd and Follies.
“It was always our dream to stage a Sondheim show at Hope Mill Theatre. A few of his greatest shows had try outs in Manchester before heading to London and it only seems right to celebrate the musical genius with a revue show of some of his best songs,” the theatre said.
Putting It Together was initially devised by Sondheim and Julia McKenzie and is presented in arrangement with Music Theatre International (Europe).
It runs from October 24 to November 24.
