Touring musical Priscilla Queen of the Desert has raised more than £50,000 to combat the Australian bushfires across three weeks of its UK tour.
The money was raised from bucket collections after performances at Southampton’s Mayflower Theatre, Theatre Royal Plymouth and Nottingham’s Theatre Royal between January 15 and February 1.
It will be donated to WIRES Australian Wildlife Rescue and New South Wales Rural Fire Service, both of which are providing relief amid the ongoing fires.
Priscilla Queen of the Desert, which is set in Australia, is currently touring until May 23. It is produced by Jason Donovan.
The producer said: “We are a proud Australian show with proud Australian producers and touring company members so these charities are very important to us.
“We’re deeply grateful the fans of the show have raised over £50K in only three weeks and can’t thank them enough for their support and generosity over a short time.
“If anyone still wants to donate you can head to [the charities’ websites].”
