Bursaries totalling £30,000 are being offered by theatre-in-business firm Interact and Meridian Theatre Company for innovative productions and tours by performing arts organisations across the UK.
Applications are being invited for two awards, one of £20,000 and another of £10,000. The money will be distributed from Interact through Meridian’s board of trustees, who will be looking to see how the prize would make a discernible and creative impact on a production by a non-profitmaking company.
Derek Hollis, Interact’s operations director, said: “As Interact’s roots were firmly in the theatre – and not forgetting that theatre is itself a business – it seems right and proper that the company’s profits made in the business world and utilising the skills of actors, writers and directors can be returned to theatre, thus completing the circle.”
Last year’s winners were Scene and Heard for its theatre work with underprivileged children in London, Theatre-rites for In One Ear, a musical production for three to six-year olds, and Dialogue Productions for its touring version of Top Dogs, a satire exploring the world of business.
The closing date for entries is Friday October 28. For further information on how to apply for the grants visit www.interact.eu.com or call 020 7793 7744.
