An open mic night is offering musical theatres performers the chance to have their performances filmed for free, in a bid to take the cost out of creating showreels.
The Phoenix Arts Club will launch Showreel Live! on February 20, offering 25 performers the chance to have their acts filmed, which will be uploaded online in high definition for free.
The singers will be accompanied by a West End musical director, with performers encouraged to choose a song of no longer than four minutes.
Twenty recording slots are available to book online for every performance, with a further five places assigned on the night for walk ups.
Colin Savage, owner of the Phoenix Arts Club, said: “So many of our up and coming performers at the Phoenix (including our wonderful staff) have come in for a drink bemoaning the cost of vocal showreels. So we thought, let’s take our Open Mic night, the longest running weekly musical theatre open night in London, to the next level.”
He added: “Surely we can help performers by providing a digital platform to boost their careers. Let’s provide them with high quality video clips in front of a live audience which they can share with agents or casting directors the next day. The love always returns to the Phoenix when they land that West End show. And the live audience previews the next West End stars in the making.”
