A new online showcase event has been launched to raise the profile of East and South-East Asian drama school graduates.
Called Creating Apart, the event will be streamed online at 7.30pm on August 28, after which, it will be available to watch free of charge.
Director Adrian Tang, who is also artistic director of East Asian theatre company Exit Pursued by Panda, is behind the showcase.
Tang told The Stage: “Covid-19 has had a devastating effect on the theatre world, not just in terms of work and financial stability but also mental health and well-being.
“There is a real sense of loss and I hope that in working together remotely, the participants will not only achieve something they are proud of, but will feel part of a collective again.
“I hope the showcase will raise the profile of our creatives and give them opportunities to make connections for when theatre eventually returns to live performance as we know it.”
Tang added: “The focus is on promoting emerging East and South-East Asian acting talent, and we will be extending invitations to casting directors and agents accordingly.”
Creating Apart will feature 35 actors and 12 directors who have collaborated remotely on short works.
Tang said the event is at full capacity for participants, but it could be the first of many similar showcase events in the future.
Further updates on the casting and the streaming of Creating Apart will be posted on the showcase’s social media channels.
