Matt Lucas has been cast in Chichester Festival Theatre’s revival of Me and My Girl, alongside Caroline Quentin.
He will make his Chichester debut as Bill Snibson in the musical, alongside Quentin as the Duchess of Dene, which has already been announced.
The Stephen Fry and Mike Ockrent version of the show is directed by Chichester artistic director Daniel Evans and opens on July 2.
Lucas is one of several casting announcements made by the theatre, which also include Patricia Hodge and Tracy-Ann Oberman.
Hodge will appear in Michael Frayn’s three-hander Copenhagen, returning to the theatre after starring in Travels with My Aunt in 2016. Copenhagen runs from August and is directed by Michael Blakemore. Charles Edwards and Paul Jesson also star.
It has also been announced that Oberman will play Monica in Noel Coward’s Present Laughter. The cast also includes Rufus Hound and it opens on April 20, directed by Sean Foley.
The 2018 season, which has a 50/50 gender split of actors, also includes the return of Flowers for Mrs Harris, an adaptation of Jane Austen’s unfinished novel The Watsons, by Laura Wade, and Mike Bartlett’s Cock.
