Manchester International Festival is partnering with Arts Council England on a scheme to showcase English artists in New York.
Lucy McCormick, Jess Thom and Selina Thompson are the first theatremakers who will perform at the Public Theater under the plans.
Over the next three years, MIF and the Arts Council will work with the Public Theater to showcase work by English artists at its annual Under the Radar festival, which takes place this month.
Artists’ travel and accommodation will be paid for, and they will also be mentored by MIF ahead of the festival.
MIF creative director Mark Ball said: “At a time of significant change for our country, it’s vitally important to continue to offer international platforms and opportunities for cultural exchange to artists. Lucy, Jess and Selina are three wonderful talents and we’re thrilled to see them presenting work to New York audiences.”
The initiative is one of a number of showcase events announced by the Arts Council to promote English theatre artists and companies to a global audience.
Last year it announced new plans to present theatre, dance and circus by England-based artists at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, beginning in 2021.
