A performance of Macbeth starring John Simm and Dervla Kirwan at Chichester Festival Theatre was abandoned after part of the stage was damaged.
The second half of the evening show on September 28 was cancelled, as a glass panel on the floor sustained damage before the interval.
A spokeswoman for Chichester Festival Theatre said: “As a precaution to ensure the safety of our acting company, we regretfully took the decision to cancel the remainder of the performance.
“Our audience were extremely understanding and we are very sorry for the disappointment caused – all ticket holders will be refunded and offered the chance to rebook for a later date.”
She added: “We have been putting all measures in place to ensure that performances can continue from this evening as scheduled.”
The show began performances on September 21 and runs until October 26 in the Festival Theatre, directed by Paul Miller. It had its press night on September 27.
