A children’s theatre is being set up at the back of a bookshop in north London.
Pickled Pepper Books has been operating since 2012 in Crouch End as a specialist children’s bookshop, cafe and events space.
The shop already holds author events, runs after-school activities and works with schools in the local area, but now it has created a small-scale children’s theatre within its existing building.
From September, Pickled Pepper plans to stage a programme of work for children, showcasing new and emerging theatre for young people.
Theatre will be staged at weekends and will focus on diversity and inclusion, co-founders Steven Pryse and Urmi Merchant said.
Productions would range from baby sensory shows to spoken word for older children, and would be “the perfect first experience of theatre”.
Merchant added: “Our aim is to open up a vibrant, fun, welcoming and inclusive children’s theatre in the space connected to our bookshop, with a focus on bringing book-based stories to life through theatre, pre-school activities and an increase in author events.”
