Kennedy Bloomer has been appointed the next artistic director of fringe venue the Hope Theatre in north London.
Bloomer is currently head of marketing and publications at the Jermyn Street Theatre, and will replace Matthew Parker in the role from January.
Her directing credits includes Jew…ish at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and before joining the Jermyn Street Theatre, Bloomer was a theatre assistant at the Hope Theatre, before becoming artistic associate.
Bloomer said: “I’m very excited to give back to a theatre that has given me so much. The Hope Theatre is very much ‘the little theatre with big ideas’ and I can’t wait to continue its brilliant work.”
The Hope’s board of trustees described Bloomer as a “passionate, talented artist”.
“We look forward to supporting her in shaping the Hope Theatre’s future,” it said in a statement.
Parker is leaving the theatre after five years in the role. His last production will be The House of Yes, which runs from October 8 to 26.
He said: “I am so very proud of all the work we at the Hope have achieved this past five years and I will miss collaborating with all the wonderful companies I’ve been lucky enough to meet along the way. But to hand it over to Kennedy feels wonderful. She’s both a wonderfully talented artist and a truly lovely person and I know she is going to do a brilliant job.”
