Judi Dench, Beverley Knight, Imelda Staunton and Chita Rivera are to appear as part of an online concert celebrating the 40-year career of the stage door manager at London’s Shaftesbury Theatre.
Hello Harry! will be a tribute to 83-year-old Harry Gabriel, who has been working at the theatre for 40 years, beginning front of house, before becoming stage door keeper.
The concert will start with his first show, Hello Dolly! in 1980, continuing to the present day with music from & Juliet.
Other shows include M Butterfly, which starred Anthony Hopkins, and Kiss of the Spider Woman, which featured Rivera.
The concert is directed by Giles Terera, who appeared at the theatre in 125th Street in 2002, and will also include Alexia Khadime, Amanda Holden, Arun Blair-Mangat, Brenda Edwards, Cassidy Janson and Cedric Neil.
The online concert is described as “a celebration not just of Harry and the thousands of lives he has touched over the years, but also of the history of the Shaftesbury Theatre and its role in the West End”.
Producer Saskia Baylis said: “We hope that this concert helps to bring people together in a very difficult time for our industry.”
It will be streamed for free on YouTube on July 15 at 7:30pm, with donations to charities chosen by Gabriel and Terera, including Cancer Research UK, Black Lives Matter and the Black Curriculum.
Anyone with a story to share about Gabriel is encouraged to email email@example.com.
