Director and producer Jonathan Church is launching a new production company with Trafalgar Entertainment.
The venture, Jonathan Church Theatre Productions, will receive financial and practical support from Howard Panter and Rosemary Squire’s entertainment company.
It will have a similar model to Sonia Friedman Productions, which was set up in 2002 as a subsidiary of Ambassador Theatre Group while it was still under Panter and Squire’s management.
Jonathan Church Theatre Productions will operate under the umbrella of Trafalgar Entertainment, while maintaining artistic independence.
Based within Trafalgar Entertainment’s offices in London, Jonathan Church Theatre Productions will create work including classic and new musicals and plays, to be presented in London’s West End, across the UK and internationally.
Church is currently artistic director of Jonathan Church Productions, which will eventually cease to exist following runs of its two upcoming productions: A Monster Calls and the transfer of Singin’ in the Rain to Sadler’s Wells in London.
Church is also artistic director of Bath Theatre Royal’s summer season under his existing production company, where his tenure has recently been extended to 2022.
Current executive producer at Jonathan Church Productions, Georgia Gatti, will take on the role of executive producer in the new company.
“I have been collaborating with Howard and Rosemary since we first worked together in Birmingham nearly 20 years ago,” Church said.
“Their impact on our industry through ATG and now Trafalgar Entertainment has been nothing short of seismic and the support I have received from them has been a vital part of enabling much of the work we have produced over the last few years.”
He added: “I look forward to this opportunity to increase the scale, quality and reach of the work that my team will be making over the coming years.”
Panter said he had “enjoyed working collaboratively with some of the best producers, directors and production companies in the business”.
“With such an extensive portfolio of exceptional work from Jonathan, the creation of Jonathan Church Theatre Productions is a very exciting prospect,” he added.
Details of the inaugural productions from Jonathan Church Theatre Productions are yet to be announced – the company aims to have its first show running by autumn next year.
