Playwright James Graham has revealed that an early draft of his new Brexit drama has been stolen and leaked online.
The writer has been penning a new drama for Channel 4 about Brexit and starring Benedict Cumberbatch.
Brexit – which is a working title – aims to explore tactics used by campaigners in the controversial referendum on Britain’s membership of the European Union.
Cumberbatch will play Dominic Cummings, the leading strategist and campaign director of Vote Leave.
A draft, understood to be from December last year, has been leaked online.
Writing on Twitter, Graham said: “Disappointingly a very early draft of my Brexit TV drama was stolen and leaked to various people to read and now comment online. My fellow writers on here will know what first drafts are like as you privately play around and test ideas. It is not the script we’re shooting.”

He added: “As anyone who has seen my stage work I hope knows, the care I take in research and the attempts I make to be fair and balanced are heartfelt and sincere. And also – takes time. Eight months after this private, early draft I’ve been constantly meeting with those involved and updating it.”
He described Brexit as “the defining issue of our age” and said he took it seriously.
“I look forward to people engaging with my actual script,” he said.
Details of the leak were revealed on website The Daily Beast. Channel 4 told the site “any script dated December 2017 that may have been obtained will be extremely out of date”.
