Hay Festival has unveiled plans to construct a pop-up theatre space next year, under a new partnership with Shakespeare’s Globe.
It comes as the Welsh literature festival prepares to celebrate its 33rd anniversary in 2020.
The pop-up venue will be located on the festival’s site at Dairy Meadows in Hay-on-Wye, and will have an estimated seating capacity of 350.
Globe on Tour will perform plays in the venue, including A Midsummer Night’s Dream, As You Like It and The Tempest.
Festival director Peter Florence said: “We’re committing to the project because we love [Shakespeare’s Globe’s] work.
“And there’s an old family connection. My father worked for Sam Wanamaker in the 1960s, bringing the first international Shakespeare season to a big-top at Bankside in 1970.
“Our whole festival in one way grew from that experience,” he added.
Hay Festival in Wales runs from May 21 to May 31, 2020.
