Kwame Kwei-Armah’s award-winning Elmina’s Kitchen is to transfer to the West End’s Garrick Theatre following its current national tour, producers have revealed.
The play, which will star writer Kwei-Armah alongside Dona Croll, Oscar James, Michael Obiora, Shaun Parkes and Don Warrington, opens at the Garrick on April 20. Elmina’s Kitchen was Kwei-Armah’s first play for the National Theatre, winning him the 2003 Evening Standard Award for Most Promising Playwright and an Olivier nomination.
Directed by Angus Jackson, the play premiered at the National but has recently been remounted at Birmingham Rep. It is currently on tour in the UK and will be produced in the West End by Bill Kenwright, Jenny King and Matthew Gale.
