Alex Edelman, Felicity Ward, Ahir Shah and Kieran Hodgson have been nominated for this year’s Edinburgh Comedy Awards.
They have been nominated for best comedy show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe alongside Glenn Moore, Rose Matafeo and Larry Dean.
It is a slimmed-down list of nominees for the main comedy prize this year, with seven on the shortlist compared with last year’s nine, which was the longest in the awards’ history.
There are just two women on the main prize shortlist – Ward and Matafeo – however, female comedians make up all but one of the nominees for best newcomer.
The list includes Ciaran Dowd, Maisie Adams, Olga Koch, Sara Barron, Sarah Keyworth and Sindhu Vee.
Awards director Nica Burns said: “A truly international shortlist of extremely talented funny comedians for best comedy show, with female stand-ups dominating an outstanding best newcomer shortlist for the first time in the history of the awards.
“Between them, they cover every aspect of contemporary life from why Britain voted to stay in the EU in 1975 to family, personal relationships, love, sex in your 20s, gender and sexual identity, living with your in-laws and being the only Jew at a meeting of the far-right. ”
The awards will be presented on August 25 and are judged by a panel chaired by the Sunday Times’ comedy critic Stephen Armstrong.
