The second set of winners for The Stage Edinburgh Awards 2019 have been announced.
Taylor and Macdonald star in a revival of Kieran Hurley’s play. The Stage critic Fergus Morgan said they give “two different but equally powerful” performances.
“Macdonald’s is quieter and subtler – she compellingly puts a broken character back together, then coldly switches her off. Taylor’s is almost unbearably raw, full of pain, anger and confusion. Both are superb, in a superb play,” he said.
Meanwhile, The Stage’s reviews editor Natasha Tripney praised Vilanculo’s “layered portrayal of a volatile teenage girl”.
“[Her performance] was adept at showing how bravado can be used to mask vulnerability, fear and justifiable frustration at a system that fails to help her,” Tripney added.
The accolades are given out weekly throughout the Edinburgh Fringe and celebrate outstanding performances at the festival.
Last week, Breffni Holahan was named the first winner for 2019, for her performance in Collapsible at Assembly Roxy.
