Deliveroo diners in Edinburgh could receive their meals with a side order of theatre during the fringe next month, as the food-delivery app seeks to turn customers’ doorsteps into stages.
Throughout the duration of the fringe, actors will be manning Deliveroo orders in the Scottish capital and will perform a specially commissioned Shakespeare-inspired monologue to customers who request it.
By writing #EdinburghBinge in the notes of their order, diners will be in with a chance of receiving a personal performance of the play – Ham-let: To Eat or Not to Eat – at no extra cost.
The performers are members of Bedlam Theatre, the student-run theatre in Edinburgh’s city centre, which is also a popular fringe venue.
Any tips given to the actors will go towards supporting the group’s year-round activities.
Deliveroo’s Joe Groves said: “Edinburgh is known for its sell-out shows across the city during the fringe and we don’t want anyone to miss out. Immersive dining is so popular, we thought: ‘Why can’t we deliver drama as well as mouth-watering meals to enhance the dining experience for our customers?”
