T’Shan Williams has been announced as the replacement for Seyi Omooba in the forthcoming production of The Color Purple.

Omooba left the production in March after historic anti-gay comments she made on Facebook came to light.

Williams will now play the role of Celie in the show, which runs at Curve in Leicester from June 28 to July 13, followed by a run at Birmingham Hippodrome.

Williams’ credits include Heather Duke in Heathers the Musical, Caroline, or Change at Hampstead Theatre, and Queen in The Life at Southwark Playhouse.

She joins the previously announced Joanna Francis, Ako Mitchell, Simon-Anthony Rhoden, Karen Mavundukure, Danielle Fiamanyaand Delroy Brown.

It is directed by Tinuke Craig.
