Joseph star Jac Yarrow and Hollywood actor Matthew Broderick are among the nominees for The Stage Debut Awards 2019, in association with Access Entertainment.

There are also nods for Emilia writer Morgan Lloyd Malcolm and the creators of musical Come from Away.

In total, there are 11 categories, with Yarrow nominated for best actor in a musical. Other musical-theatre talent nominated, across both the actor and actress categories, includes Ryan Hutton for Only Fools and Horses, and Jarneia Richard-Noel and Maiya Quansah-Breed for Six.

Yarrow is also up in the Joe Allen Best West End Debut category, which includes Broderick, for The Starry Messenger. The full list of nominees for this publicly voted award can be found here.

Malcolm is nominated in one of two new categories introduced this year. She is up for best creative West End debut for Emilia at the Vaudeville Theatre, against Arinzé Kene for Misty, Matthew Lopez for The Inheritance, Irene Sankoff and David Hein for Come from Away, and Frankie Bradshaw and Lynette Linton, the designer and director of Sweat, respectively.

The second new category honours the best child performers of the year, with nods going to actors who appeared in shows such as Caroline, Or Change, and The Bodyguard.

The Stage Debut Awards are now in their third year and celebrate emerging theatre talent from across the industry in venues spanning the UK.

The actor and actress categories include nods for Liv Hill, for Top Girls at the National Theatre and Stuart Campbell for The Hunt at the Almeida Theatre, as well as Patrick Gibson for Sweat.

The best director category includes Tyrone Huntley, Atri Banerjee, Jade Lewis and Tom Scutt.

The Stage editor Alistair Smith said: “We’re delighted to announce another terrific set of nominees for The Stage Debut Awards 2019 in association with Access Entertainment, celebrating the country’s finest breakthrough talent. This year’s line-up features some extremely exciting young (and not-so-young) performers and creatives making superb work across the UK. It reflects not only the ongoing excellence but also the increasing diversity – in every sense – of the emerging theatremakers who are positively shaping the future of British theatre.”

The winners will be announced on September 15 at the Brewery in London. The ceremony will be streamed live on The Stage’s Facebook page.
