Rebecca Frecknall is to direct a new production of The Duchess of Malfi at the Almeida Theatre.

The title role will be played by Lydia Wilson, who was nominated for best actress at the 2015 Olivier Awards for her role as Kate in King Charles III.

Director Rebecca Frecknall: ‘Though it’s changing, theatre is still white, middle-class and male’

Frecknall’s production of the John Webster revenge tragedy runs from December 2 to January 18, 2020, with a press night on December 10.

It follows Frecknall’s productions of Three Sisters and Olivier award-winning Summer and Smoke, both at the Almeida, where Frecknall is associate director.

The Duchess of Malfi is designed by Chloe Lamford. Jack Knowles is the lighting designer, sound design is by George Dennis and costumes are by Nicky Gillibrand.
