Councillors are considering relocating a theatre in south-west Wales to a new premises, at a cost of up to £4.5 million, to energise the area’s cultural economy.
A Ceredigion County Council report outlines two potential options for the future of Theatr Felinfach in the Aeron Valley, near Lampeter, as part of plans to “improve the theatre’s resources and its potential as a powerhouse to energise the cultural economy”.
One option is to renovate the current building, including refitting the auditorium, at a cost of £1.7 million.
The second option is the relocation of the theatre to a new site in the local area, where it would sit alongside a proposed school. This is subject to the approval of the plans for the school.
The council will decide whether to move forward with a public consultation on the two options later this month.
Theatr Felinfach, which has a capacity of 263, was built in 1972, converted from a machinery shed.
